The End of a Long Road

Image
Hi all, We were very lucky on Wednesday that we had a whole day to work on our dress and finish final details. Today may be the last time you hear from us as we have the dress rehearsal today in Period 3&4. This is our final outfit. We are very happy with how it has turned out and we are really proud of our model for learning how to walk well in heels.  We have learnt lots of new things and learnt to cooperate well as a group. Yesterday we added some glitter along the collar and in parts of the skirt that resembles stars. We also managed to find some old heels that are around 5-6 inches! We also made a headband to complement her hairstyle for the day (it won't be the same hairstyle). We are very overjoyed with the result and hope everyone likes it. We went for a plain white wedding dress but turned it into something a bit different with a more unique look. I can't believe that my group did it. It's been an amazing experience and hopefully one day we can help the planet

Button

Hi everyone, Recently, my team and I but a button into the dress because we have been struggling to get the dress onto the model - when we try putting it on her it's really hard but when it's on her it slips back down. The button has been quite a good fix and we are hoping for the best and that there are no more problems before the due date.  The button works well, and this has helped our model and made it easier for her to walk and get it on and off. I think this will greatly improve the dress.  We also cut some gold fabric and they resemble gloves. We are unsure if we are going to use it or not. We are still unsure about a lot of things with the dress.

Challenges - Running out of Time

Image
Hi all, Our Eco-Fashion adventure is due this FRIDAY! So with the nerves and all we are very stressed especially because we have half the dress to go and lots of current obstacles like how we are going to piece it all together. We also have lots of problems such as still not having enough white fabric for the dress. Luckily for us we have had access to a mannequin which has helped with the designing. We have established a fabulous skirt and are planning currently on adding a button (or more!) Unfortunately, our sowing machine hasn't been working and that has been a slight problem. Some of the things that are going really well is that all the skirt layers are still looking fabulous and there have been zero rips and tears. The skirt has been fitting the model, but we are planning to add the button to make sure it fits the model even better.

Update - Progress

Image
Hi everyone,  The skirt has been finished, and we've incorporated all the layers. We are still working on the top part of the dress. We are currently debating whether or not to add buttons because the skirt fits our model but if we are going to sow both parts together it would most likely be necessary to add buttons. We were given an extremely useful hour and a half to work on our garment on Friday, which helped us complete the skirt and start the top of the dress. We have been contemplating whether and/or how to stitch the two pieces together, and we have been enjoying the challenges as it has given us the chance to learn more and practice our problem-solving skills.

The Dress

Image
Hi all, We recently encountered a minor problem of a slight tear in the dress - we have countered this by repairing the dress. We hand sowed the waist of the skirt to hold two of the layers together and now we are using a machine to add the last layer before we start on the shirt/top part of the dress. As you can see our designer is working ever so hard, the model and I (the blogger) are trying to start designing the shirt. The model and I have just started cutting and sketching the lines on the shirt of our plan. We have also started thinking of a head piece for the dress - Such as a veil. We also ironed part of the shirt for the cutting process. Our model also tried on the skirt and it's hard to get on but it is looked good and working well.

Weekly Update

Image
Hi all, In our last blog we recorded some problems and most of these have been resolved through our creativity and prior solutions. We have started bunching layers and we have almost finished the skirt we just need to sew/sow it or find a way to use elastic from a sheet for it.

Challenge/Problems

Image
Hi all, Our first problem was that we recently encountered a slight problem of cutting the dress for the waist to wide.  Our second problem was that we didn't have enough poof which also led to our third problem. Our third problem was that we are unable to access a lot of white material especially because it has to be reused so we can't just buy stuff from shops.  Our solution for the second and third problem was to just not use as much white and use other colors as layers for under the dress to maximize the dress' 'poof'. Here are some photos:

Who we are/Sewing Machine

Image
Hi all, We have started our final editing and we have started getting ready to sew. Our deadline is in a couple of weeks and we hope we can make the deadline. In the photos above we have Caroline, our main designer/seamstress who has a measuring tape. Above that on the brown paper we have Petra, our model. She was being measured so we can cut our shirt/torso part of the dress. We will mainly be using the machine above.

The Design

Hi everybody, We've even begun planning our actual dress! In order to ensure that we have everything, we have begun assigning specific materials or pieces of fabric for each component of the outfit. We hae also started cutting fabric for the dress. Here are some photos:
